Siem Reap weather at a glance
Siem Reap has two seasons. The dry season runs from November to April, the rainy season from May to October, with September and October the wettest months. Angkor Thom can be visited in every season, so the question is how much heat and rain you want to plan around.
The figures on this page are long-term monthly averages for Siem Reap. They show the pattern, not a forecast for your dates. January's 0 mm, for example, is an average and no promise of a rain-free day. If you want help covering the city on a hot or wet day, see our Angkor Thom tours by bike, tuk-tuk and guide.

Best time to visit Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom
The same seasons apply across the whole park.
November to February
Rain is low and the heat is easier. This is the natural choice if your dates are flexible. For temple-by-temple timing, see the best time to visit Angkor Wat.
March and April
Dry, but hot. April is the hottest month with a maximum of 34.7 °C. Plan shaded breaks and drink more water than you expect to need.
May to October
The rainy season. Showers and storms are likely, September and October especially. You can still see the temples. Keep a plan B for the wettest hours and expect slippery stone.
Park hours also matter more than the month. The park as a whole is open from 05:00 to 18:30, while the Baphuon and the Bayon are open from 07:30 to 17:30. Individual monuments set their own times, so confirm them on the day.
Rainy season safety at Angkor Thom
APSARA, the authority for the park, issued rainy season safety guidelines in May 2026. They warn about heavy rain, wind, wet slippery stones and thunderstorms. They recommend shoes with good tread, insect repellent and attention to local warning signs.
In a thunderstorm, do not shelter or park under large trees. Branches fall and trees can topple. Steps and stone surfaces at the Baphuon and on the terraces deserve extra care in wet weather.
Cover your shoulders and knees at the temples in any season, and stay on marked paths. Planning the rest of your trip? See where to stay for Angkor Thom and getting there.
